1. Navigation systems use the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) network to pinpoint the location of your car anywhere on the globe and get the perfect and accurate locations where you have to reach it.
2. The system in your car communicates with these satellites via signals and microwaves and displays the vehicle's location on a local map.
3. Your location can then be monitored as a vehicle moves, displayed in relation to near by landmarks such as hotels, gas stations, or restaurants, or used to calculate routes to reach at your destination on time.
4. The Global Positioning System (GPS) was developed by the U.S. Department of Defense. The only system of its kind in the world.
5. GPS uses the transmission of microwave signals from a network of 24 satellites orbiting 12,000 miles above Earth to pinpoint a receiver's location, as well as its speed and direction of travel.
6. GPS car navigation systems can be factory-installed on new autos or purchased as an add-on accessory.
7. Combining the use of signals from the satellites with interactive on-board maps, GPS car navigation systems can search routes of travel to a given destination based on the enter location.
8. Some GPS car navigation systems are interconnected with sources of traffic information, enabling them to automatically account for construction and congestion when determining the best route. If a driver misses a turn, GPS car navigation systems can quickly correct for the error with an updated routing.
9. Providing voice or visual instructions, these units also can help drivers find the nearest gas station or their favorite restaurant or get near by hospital facility if in case of any emergency.
10. Annual updates of a GPS car navigation system's on-board maps are recommended. Due to the volume of changes in roads, addresses many routes such as new exits and additional points of interest like banks/ATMs, gas stations, restaurants and hotels, updates are required to maintain optimal performance of GPS car navigations systems.
11. Map updates are available for purchase from the manufacturers of GPS car navigation systems.
12. Nowadays, many cars come with custom fitted GPS devices, which can be used for various purposes. The car GPS systems not only locate the vehicle.
13. But it can help in searching for the best route to a destination and also find out traffic congestion in certain areas.
14. The automotive GPS system receives information from the satellites and combines that information with various onboard censors related to speed, direction and GPS.
15. Map database are also brought into use as it helps in enhancing the reliability of the GPS systems.
16. While searching for the best route available, the car navigation system uses road network data, site information data, location data and voice data.
17. In case of traffic congestion alert, VICS (Vehicle Information Communication System) provides the driver with real-time information regarding traffic, road construction and parking lot occupancy, etc.
18. The car GPS system automatically takes command from satellites and guides the driver to follow the perfect guidelines to reach the required destination.
19. The automotive GPS system uses a GPS navigation device to get data regarding the position of the user and also acquire data from the unit’s database.
20. These days, the automotive GPS systems come with a verbal option, which enable the device to speak, and it conveys the exact distance from the nearest landmark or the exact location of the vehicle to reach at their destination fastly and safely.
21. Car GPS systems have made navigation very easy, comforting the traveler in unfamiliar terrains.
22. It has now become technologically advanced and earlier problems of signal loss and data inefficiency have now been negated. Now you can travel anywhere with no any problems and makes your rides happier and comfortable.
